Why is Glutamine so important? It is an amino acid building block of protein that your body needs in large amounts. It is one of the top 3 supplements recommended for treating Leaky Gut! Most people with Celiac have a leaky gut due to the
Our gut controls so much of our body. I know growing up in science class you were told that the brain controls the body. Research has shown that overall body health and even some brain function is dictated by our guts! Check out this article from Harvard University for more information.
What research shows about Glutamine:
Dr. Axe is a well-known doctor who specializes in overall health and nutrition. Here is a link to his article about Glutamine and gut health.
Web MD also published about glutamine and gut health! They also see the benefit of using it to heal a leaky gut! Here is their article.
My experience with Glutamine:
Glutamine is a daily part of my routine because I know it helps with my symptoms and healing from Celiac disease. I used to have horrible digestion and reflux. My NP recommended it years ago and I have taken it ever since. When I accidentally get glutened I up my dosage and it helps to settle down a flare. If I eat foods that I normally don’t eat: junk food, even though it’s gluten free I also increase my glutamine because my body gets angry at the crappy food.
Brain symptoms are one of my first signs my gut is off. I know it sounds weird but one of my first symptoms of getting glutened is the inability to finish my words or sentences correctly. I talk like I am drunk or having a stroke.
Thankfully I rarely get glutened and manage my symptoms well with my careful diet. I stick to my supplement routine and it helps me stay healthy.
Talk to your Dr:
Always ask your Dr before adding a new supplement to your routine. I use a powdered glutamine supplement because it is easier to digest. It’s easy to make, just mix it in my smoothies or with some juice and water.
I hope you find this helpful for your quest to further healing your gut and health!
