Gluten free peking duck with steamed buns was a treat for us to have! It is hard to find this in a restaurant that is gluten free.
Today is our 20th wedding anniversary! I know we look like we were 12 when we got married! Marriage has it’s up times and down times. It always takes effort, but it is an effort that is so rewarding!
We grew into adults together since we were 20 when we got hitched! He is still my best friend and I love spending time together. I am so proud of the man he has become and look forward to another 100 years together!
For our anniversary I am going to make a delicious dinner! He loves eating duck and I hardly make it. He grew up hunting and eating whatever they harvested. I found Peking Duck at Costco which is gluten-free, so I thought I would surprise him. I know it’s not wild but the art of compromise is essential in marriage! hehe!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE GLUTEN FREE PEKING DUCK:
The chopping of all the veggies is the part of this recipe that takes the longest. I love that each person gets to choose what they want in each bun of delicious duck meat and sauces and veggies!
If Costco doesn’t have the gluten-free duck there, I have also ordered it online through Hudson Valley Foie Gras. Theirs is also delicious and easy to make!
You need a bamboo steaming basket that fits in a wok.
Whole duck or duck breasts.
Cucumber
Green Onions
Red Peppers
Gluten-Free buns that are frozen so you can steam them. You can also use rice paper wrappers by softening them in hot water and wrapping all of the ingredients inside of them.
Gluten-Free Peking Duck sauce
Gluten-Free Hoisin Sauce
Sweet Chili Sauce is also yummy!
Here’s How TO Make IT:
- Use a bamboo steamer in a wok. Place water in the wok not over the bottom of the steamer. Line each layer with parchment paper. Place frozen buns in a steamer and steam until they are cooked.
- Sear duck in a pan with coconut oil until crispy. The duck comes precooked so you are just heating it up to eat and make the skin crispy. The duck will render delicious fat. You can save the fat to cook with.
- Julienne your veggies so they will fit into the bun.
- Slice the duck into pieces.
- Serve it all on a big platter. Put the duck, sauce of your choice, and veggies into a steamed bun. Enjoy with your favorite red wine! We liked the Petite Syrah with it!
