Why is it called a Mississippi Pot Roast?
Robin Chapman created this recipe by modifying a recipe from her aunt in the 1990s to make it less spicy for her kids. Her family loved it then she gave it to a friend and it became famous. Both of them called it “pot roast” but it got passed around by a couple of bloggers. One of them called it Mississippi Roast and the name stuck. You can read more about it here.
What makes this gluten free?
Most dried gravy packages have flour in them as a thickener. I used an organic one that is certified gluten free. Also, I chose to use Flavor God Ranch Seasoning, because it has cleaner ingredients and it is also gluten free. Hidden Valley Ranch dried seasoning is also labeled gluten free and can be used in this recipe if you like.
